Ivy’s Story: Growing Through the Cracks
This little puppy’s cries came from a place of cruelty. An animal abuser had forced her neck between wooden boards, trapping her so tightly that she could not move. For days, she was left there—hungry, thirsty, beaten, forced to lie in her own waste.
A neighbor heard her desperate cries and begged the police to intervene. But instead of helping, they laughed and dismissed it. Refusing to give up, the neighbor called the shelter.
The rescuers came quickly. They found her trembling, soaked, and starving. In the middle of the night, with the neighbor’s help, the rescuers forced their way inside, freed her from the boards, and carried her away from that place of torment. When they offered food, she ate hungrily—finally tasting safety and kindness
The shelter named her Ivy—after the plant that clings to life and grows even through cracks in stone. Like her namesake, Ivy endured cruelty, but she refused to let go of life.
Within days of her rescue, Ivy found a forever home. Today, she is safe, loved, and free—living the life every dog deserves.
But her story is a reminder of what happens when there are no laws to protect the innocent. The abuser is still free, and without more resources and staff, the shelter cannot keep watch over every cruelty case that appears.
