The Strength To Stand

She was struck by a car and left gravely injured on the roadside. Both her front and back legs were snapped completely, the broken bones pushed out of alignment and stabbing into muscle, just as the x-ray later revealed. The pain was unimaginable.

But even in that moment, compassion found her. A kind passerby gently carried her off the street, bandaged her wounds as best as they could, and placed a makeshift splint of wood to keep her broken legs from moving until proper help arrived.

When the shelter team reached her, they rushed her to surgery. A miracle-worker of a veterinarian carefully aligned the shattered bones and pieced them back together with plates and screws. It was a long, delicate operation, but it gave her the chance not just to live — but to walk again.

Recovery was long and fragile. Every day, the shelter team cleaned her wounds, prevented infection, and helped her regain strength. They stood by her side in every painful moment, determined not to let her spirit break.

And she did not. Today, she walks proudly through the shelter’s main office, playful and full of joy, soaking up love and attention from everyone. The dog who once lay broken by the roadside is now whole again.

We call her Vida — because after everything she endured, she is the very definition of life.
