Her Fight To Survive Almost Cost Her Life

This story contains descriptions of neglect, a lost pregnancy, and surgery. Some details may be difficult to see, but we share them to honor her fight for life — and to show how your compassion makes survival and healing possible.

She was abandoned in a sealed wooden box, with nothing but small holes drilled for air. Hungry, thirsty, and desperate, she must have tried to push her head through one of the openings — searching for food, water, or simply a way out. In that struggle for life, she became stuck, unable to move forward or back.

That is how rescuers found her. Firefighters freed her from the box and brought her to us, terrified and weak. But her ordeal was not over. The box’s pressure had badly injured her neck. An examination also revealed that her unborn kittens had not survived, and the infection had already begun poisoning her body.

Even on the medical table, she could not stop fighting. As IV fluids dripped into her fragile body, she tried desperately to run, still too scared to believe she was safe. To protect her, the team placed a cage over her — not to confine her, but to keep her from hurting herself while she struggled against fear.

With surgery and care, the infection was cleared, and she was sterilized to prevent future suffering. Slowly, she is beginning to heal. Each day she grows a little stronger, and each gentle hand she meets brings her a little closer to trusting again.

Today, she is no longer trapped. Her fight for survival brought her here, and compassion is carrying her the rest of the way.
