She Endured The Pain So Her Kittens Could Survive

This story contains descriptions of injury and medical treatment. We share them because they reveal both the hardships that abandoned mothers endure — and the strength of compassion that brings them back to life.

She came to us in terrible condition — a mother cat whose skin had peeled away from parts of her belly and leg, leaving raw wounds that needed urgent care. Despite her injuries, she had recently given birth, and her kittens were waiting for her.

At the shelter’s medical facility, her wounds were carefully cleaned and wrapped, and for weeks she remained under treatment. The recovery was slow and painful, but she never gave up. Some of her kittens showed signs of Feline Calicivirus (FCV), so they had to be kept apart from her for safety.

But a mother’s heart does not rest. While separated from her kittens, she cried endlessly — until staff found a solution. They placed her with other cats, knowing she needed companionship to stay calm and heal. Surrounded by gentle company, she slowly began to settle.

Day after day, her wounds closed, her strength returned, and her calm spirit emerged again. Through compassion and persistence, she recovered fully — a mother once broken, now whole again, with her babies safely at her side.
